If you have always dreamed about getting married in a small country church, you should take a look at the churches that dot the English countryside to see if one of them will allow you to have your ceremony in the church.
Most churches require that you are a member of the parish in order to perform a ceremony such as a wedding ceremony. However, many churches will allow you to join their parish even if you do not live in the area. If you grew up in the area or know someone who lives in the area, this often helps.
Small country churches can be the ideal venue for your country wedding ceremony. Many couples prefer smaller churches over the larger churches because they offer more intimacy and charm.
A great many couples in England are getting married with a civil ceremony instead of a church ceremony. In addition, church attendance in the country has dropped dramatically in the past 50 years. Many churches are suffering economically because of the drop in church membership. Some will be happy to perform your wedding ceremony in exchange for a donation to the church.
If you are dreaming of a church wedding and are looking for a small country church in which to have your wedding, you should consider discussing this matter with the church official. You can ring them and ask to meet with them to discuss the possibility of having your wedding in their parish. Many church officials will honor such a request and take it as a compliment to their church that you have chosen it to be the place of ceremony for your big day. While others may insist that you must be a member of the parish, some will allow you to register so that you can get married in their church.
If you do get to choose the small country church of your dreams for your wedding ceremony, you must then take a look at surrounding venues where you can host the wedding dinner or cocktail reception after. Once you have the church date set for the wedding, you can then start to make plans for your small and intimate wedding.
Be mindful of the rules of the church regarding the service, attire or flower decorations. You should understand the ceremony and discuss any concerns with the Vicar or church official prior to confirming the date. If you are of another denomination, you may need to convert to the religion in order to have the church perform the service. Be sure that this is something that both of you want to do.
