Information on wedding registries

After a couple gets engaged, it is usually customary that there will be an engagement party or a bridal shower of some sort. Friends and family of the couple want to send a message of congratulations, and the most common way to do so is by buying them a gift. Setting up a wedding registry is a convenient way to give your friends and family an accurate list of things that you may want or need.
The tradition of showering the bride and groom with gifts is as old as marriage. Modern technology has made a science out of wedding and shower gifts with the creation of the computerized registry. This gives your guests the opportunity to view the items on your wish list as well as the prices on their computer. This method is ideal especially for out of town friends and family who will not be able to make it to the actual events.
Before you actually register, a couple should discuss what kind of gifts they desire. Take into consideration your personalities, preferences, and lifestyles. Think about the style and colors of the items that you both want. Do you both prefer a casual or elegant style? What do you want your home to look like? Discussing these topics with each other will make the process a lot easier and give you both exactly what you are looking for.
Items in a wedding registry are entirely up to the couple. Some of the more traditional gifts include kitchenware, linens, or china. Other couples are looking for recreational items, such as camping gear, computer equipment, or even a bottle of their favorite wine. The items on your list should reflect your personalities. Just remember to register for items in a wide range of prices to ensure that all of your guests will be able to stay in their budget when purchasing your gift.
It is recommended that a couple register five to six months before the actual wedding. This can vary depending on how many showers or parties you have. Just remember to give your guests, especially the procrastinators, enough time to go through your registry and pick out a gift!
Your wedding day will bring you a great amount of joy and is the beginning of your future together. The gifts that you register for will help you in developing your new life, and your guests will feel honored that they were able to assist.

The tradition of tossing the bride’s garter at her wedding dates back to the Dark Ages, when guests would actually accompany the bride and groom to their bedroom and obtain the garter as proof of consummation. This was obviously not appreciated very much by most couples, so instead the groom would remove the garter during the reception and toss it into the crowd. It is said that just like the bouquet toss, whoever catches the garter will be the next to marry!

Party favors are a great way to give your guests a gift to take home that will help them remember the wonderful time that they had at your wedding. It used to be that couples would play it safe and give out candy or have their guests keep their place cards. But recently, couples are incorporating the theme of their wedding into their favors, giving their guests something that is more practical or unique.

There are some couples that don’t like to follow the norm. Some don’t want to wear a white dress and a tuxedo. Some want to serve cupcakes instead of a wedding cake. And some couples like to think outside of the box and get married at a fun, sometimes unusual, and always uniquely different location than any other couple has before them.

Guidelines for Picking the Right Wedding Gift
http://www.articleblast.com/index.php
A wedding is the most special and cherished event, among others, in the lives of a couple. It not only showcases the bond of love between the couple, but also affirms a lifelong commitment to each other. This is precisely, where selecting ideal wedding gifts becomes so important. Receiving an invitation to a wedding is an expression of the love and respect the bride and groom have for you and it is but natural that you give wedding gifts as a token of the love and friendship that you enjoy with them.
There are some important principles of etiquette which pertain to weddings, i.e., from the manner in which you respond to the invitation, to the rules of purchasing and giving wedding gifts. Knowing when it is appropriate to give a gift and when it is not, is one of the key rules in wedding gift guidelines. For example, you must purchase a gift if you have received an invitation to a wedding that you are most likely to attend. On the other hand, it would also be a good idea to mail wedding gifts, in the event that you cannot. In some instances, if you receive an invitation to a wedding after it has taken place, you may not be obliged to send a gift. A suitable congratulatory card will suffice, instead.
Selecting suitable wedding gifts for a couple can be pretty confusing and tricky. This is because there are no formulas or rules to follow. However, the choice of gift you give will depend on two factors – the kind of relationship you enjoy with the new couple and the budget that permits you to purchase a useful gift. With the availability of bridal and wedding registries, it is indeed, easy to choose wedding gifts. On the other hand, if you are comfortable and wish to pick wedding gifts without consulting such registries, you should feel free to do so.
Another important, although not mandatory rule, is the timing and place for giving wedding gifts. In some cases, it is accepted as okay to send or personally give wedding gifts just before the date of the wedding. However, in conformity with established customs and traditions, the date and venue of the wedding reception, is the place for giving wedding gifts. In case you attend the wedding without giving a gift, it is customary and acceptable to mail your gift to the new couple’s home.
There are, however, no hard and fast rules, insofar as the type and nature of the wedding gifts you give, or whether giving gifts is necessary at all. This is because you may enjoy a very close relationship with the couple which can offset any ill feeling if you do not present a gift to them. A good idea, to select a gift for a couple with whom you enjoy a close relationship with, is to be observant and a good listener. What this means is to take a close look around their home, or listen attentively to their conversation and you may pick valuable tips on what, specifically, they would need. Useful wedding gifts can cement your relationship with the new couple even further.

Affordable and Attractive Wedding Gifts
Finding the right wedding gift can be a difficult task. Just when you think you have found the perfect gift for the bride and groom something goes awry. You may have discovered that this “perfect gift” is way out of your price range. Or, you might become frustrated by the number of affordable gifts that are just not appropriate to give as a wedding present. Finding a wedding present that is both affordable and attractive may seem difficult, but do not despair, provided that you know where and how to look you should not have too much trouble when it comes to finding the perfect gift for the happy couple in your life.
One of the first things that you can do when trying to find an affordable and attractive wedding gift is to take the time to read through any wedding registries that the couple getting married have created; they may have registered at one store or many, but either way there will likely be a number of items on the registry which can fit any price range. In addition to giving you ideas on what to buy and letting you explore the prices of given items to find the ones that are most affordable, you also have the advantage of knowing that the couple in question will be happy with any of the items on the list since they are the ones that picked the items out in the first place.
If the couple has not registered or if their only registries are with stores that are out of your price range, you might consider looking online for any wish lists that they have created. A number of popular online retailers offer wish list services, letting you browse through items that the individuals who created the lists are interested in. By browsing through wish lists of both the bride and the groom you will likely be able to find ideas about what you can get that would meet the interests of both (or separate items from each wish list that can be given together so that both bride and groom will receive a gift.)
If they do not have wish lists created, or if you are unable to access them, take heart in knowing that you can still find great wedding gifts which are affordable on your own. One way to do this is to look for gifts which will help them to celebrate their wedding together; examples of this include wedding photo albums and items which can be personalized with specific details about the wedding. A personalized wedding plaque might not cost too much but can end up being a favorite wedding present because it is something which signifies and celebrates the love that the bride and groom feel for each other.
Another option that you have is to look for items that will be useful and serve a functional purpose. This can be anything from luggage that can be used on the honeymoon and beyond to cookware and food storage containers that can be used throughout the year. Though these options might not sound very exciting, if you take the time to buy something functional that is made of quality materials then you will likely be giving a gift that is not only pleasant on the eyes but that will also be in use long after many novelty gifts have been placed into storage until the couple decides to reminisce about their wedding.
Should you wish to give a gift that is functional but that also serves a decorative purpose, you might consider buying a china set (or at least specific pieces of one) that can be used primarily at parties or family dinners. This will give the couple something that they can be proud to show off to visitors and that will remind them of you whenever they bring it out on special occasions. It is important that you shop around for a bit before purchasing this sort of gift, of course; many of the more decorative pieces of tableware can be quite expensive, though there are a number of affordable options available provided that you take the time to explore your options.
Regardless of what you decide to buy for the bride and groom, make sure that you take the time to see if you can find a better deal on it than what you found it for originally. Visit other stores and shop around online to see the range of prices that are available for your gift choice, seeing if you can locate any special discounts or sales that could help you to save even more money on your purchase. This will help you to be able to get exactly what you want without having to pay more than you can afford.

How To Choose The Perfect Wedding Reception Gift
When trying to choose a good wedding gift you may feel lost. It helps to have some guidelines when trying to pick out the best wedding gift. Instead of ambling about the store aimlessly you can have a good idea what you are looking for.
Having a main idea of what you want to buy helps the process go smoothly without hassle. Considering the couple’s wants and needs, your relationship to the couple and your budget will help you to make the right wedding gift choice.
Many couples now use store registries to let guests know what they buy them for their wedding. Registries list items the couple has chosen throughout the store that they want. If someone has bought something from the list it is taken off, so you know when you look at the list that nobody has bought the items.
Most lists will include the number of each item the couple wants. If the couple lists they want four wine glasses, you could buy two and let someone else get the other two. Registries are also nice because you can quickly see what to buy and be out of the store in a matter of minutes.
Of course there are some not so good things about registries. They are computer-based, so sometimes you will not be able to access them. Also if the wedding is out of town for you the store the couple is registered at may not be easily accessible to you. If the couple has registered and it is convenient for you this is the easiest way to chose a good wedding gift.
Another consideration is your personal relationship with the couple. Base your gift on how well you know them. An acquaintance from work isn’t expected to buy as extravagant a gift as a best friend would. If you only know one of them you should still buy a gift they will both use and like.
If you really have no clue about what they want or need you can give money or a gift certificate with a nice card. Make sure your gift is appropriate and useful. Any gift is appreciated, so do not feel as if you have to give the best gift ever.
Your budget is always a consideration when shopping for a wedding gift. Nobody expects you to bankrupt yourself when buying them a wedding gift. Set an amount you can comfortably spend and stick to it. If your budget is small just be creative and buy what you can. If you’ve checked out the registry and nothing on it fits your budget then buy the couple something useful, but simple. For example a bucket of cleaning supplies would be appreciated by any new couple, but wont break the bank for you. The couple will be more grateful that you came to their wedding then worried about how much you spent on their gift.
Keep in mind these helpful pointers to choose a wedding reception gift that will be appreciated by the couple. You should look at their registry, if you can, consider your relationship with them and keep your budget in mind so that you choose a nice gift that works. Never worry that the couple will not like your gift or think you are cheap. As long as your intentions are good, they will love anything you give them.

Top 5 Tips For Registering Wedding Gifts
Create a Wedding Registry as early as possible
This should be at the top of your to-do task list. The moment you spread the good news, start creating a wedding registry right away. Take out the guesswork in gift giving. Offer your family, friends and guests hints on what gifts to buy. It would be better if you can list all the gifts you want to receive on your wedding day or if you still have many things to juggle at least give a wide selection of gifts for your guests to browse.
Be sure to hit all Price Range
It will be a great surprise if your guests can give you a 0 china set, however, you should also list items in a wide price range. Be considerate. Give your guests the freedom to choose a gift they can afford.
Register for non-traditional wedding gift items through wedding cash registries
With a new concept of wedding registries arising in the net today, the wedding cash registry, you can now register for non-traditional gift items. This type of wedding registry allows you to list gifts such as a down payment for your first home, a vacation to a paradise island, a puppy, appliances, gadgets or any gift you want to receive on your wedding day.
Update Your Wedding Registry
Every time your guests make a purchase, update your wedding registry so they will know what gifts have been purchased. Also, when you update your wedding registry, try to add new gift items so your guests still have a wide array of items to choose from.
Thank Your Guests
Be gracious. Let your guests know that their gifts arrived promptly and do not forget to thank them for the wonderful present you have received. You can send a thank you note before wedding or after you return from your honeymoon.

Make an Online Wedding Registry
Wedding registries not just help out your guests but help you get accurately what you wish for and save time at the return lines after the wedding. Online wedding registries are very convenient as well as bride friendly.
In many cases, to set up an online wedding registry you must go through a huge retailer. A number of the largest retailers with online registries consist of Wal-Mart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Macy’s, and REI. Smaller boutique stores can as well have online registries, but not all of them do. You can call a local boutique to see about their wedding registry options.
If you don’t want to home your registry at only a small number of stores, create your online wedding registry through MyRegistry.com. This site permits you to include items from some store in the world to your registry and send it to your family and friends. It is a smart way to keep prices low because you can discover the best offers from as many diverse stores as you want.
To begin making an online wedding registry, you’ll need to sign up by making a username and password. Be sure to record this somewhere near your PC so you will be able to access your registry. After that you can look for the site to add items to your registry and find updates about what items have been purchased for you.
The great thing about online wedding registry is that you can inform and edit your registry at any time of the day with no having to worry about store hours or crowds. A lot of stores also carry items online that are not in stores, thus browsing online makes sure you don’t miss a thing.
