Searching for a Wedding Registry

Question by Rachel: Wedding registry?
I’m filling out my wedding registry online right now. But I don’t know what all I’ll need. I have most kitchen appliances, bathroom things, etc, but what are some of the things I may need that I might not expect or something I might not think of?

Why not ask for vouchers as well then ?

Just search the site for things you want. Table clothes, cloth napkins, ‘company’ dinnerware, stuff like that.

Think about what you like to cook, and check if you have all the untensils, etc picked out. One thing I wish we had registered for more of was sheets.

vacum cleaner, towels, bath items. bbq, outside stuff.

good luck!!

What about towels and linens? A good cost to you and a worthwhile gift.
Rugs, lamps, clocks, pillows, even a cool sculpture for your home.

When i did my wedding registry i asked for tucker ware, sheets, towels, and a complete bathroom set that was a merge between me and my husband. Think about things your future husband might want like a grill, blender, big screen tv.

If you have everything you need right now, register for things you want, like new bedding or china, etc…

Usually, they will offer suggestions. Do the two of you live together already? If not, ask him what things he might want. Then ask the married woman and mothers that you know. They can give you great insight into the things that you really need. The good thing about doing a registry is that you can return items without a receipt and get the other things that you didn’t receive that you may have wanted more than item you have chosen to return. Good Luck!

Go to the stores like target and walmart and do your registry. You get a bag full of items like lil cards that say I’m registered here. (so then you can put that in and not feel like your asking for a gift) If you do alot of cooking get appliances you would like. Me and my husband treated our registry as a xmas wish list. we scanned anything we wanted from bath towels to ice cream makers. Have fun with it. CONGRATS

I would suggest that you and your fiance spend a weekend going to a few stores that you like. Go to a few different ones and make a list of things that you see that you would like to have. It’s hard to think of things but I always see a ton when I’m just out walking around. Then, take the list home and register at the stores where you saw the most you like.

how about things like picture frames, candles and holders, throw blankets or pillows for the living room, sheet sets for ur bed, nice table clothes and napkins for the dining room, thing to organize your new life such as mail bins, in and out going mail/bills, etc. bath robes, front door decorations or something that would have your family name. board games or card games you like to play together.

i’m getting ready to do this myself and have just been thinking of things that others added.

The difference between registries now and back in the day is that now people are already living on their own before they get married (and a lot of times the couple is already living together) , so they already have all the necessities.

Think of what you might like to upgrade:
do you have a set of nice dishes for entertaining?
nice silverware, glasses?
small appliances?

I’ve also seen DVDs and other entertainment items on registries.

Of course, talk to your future husband and see if there’s anything he might like.

Congratulations, and good luck!!!

The best advice I can give is to go down the list room by room and decide what you need for each room. I would suggest you replace any hand-me-downs that you have first and foremost, or if you are using a coffeemaker from 1995, its ok to replace it with a new one requested on your registry. Be sure to get multiple sets of sheets too, that was one thing I wish I had done. Only you can decide what you need and want, just be sure to have a multitude of price ranges on ther from $5-how ever high you want to go. I also really suggest you register for China if you dont have it. I was a staunch supporter of the “you’ll never use it” camp, but my MIL convinced me that I should get it. I have NEVER regretted having my beautiful china set, and even though I only break it out 2-3 times a year I truly love that I have it, it makes the food taste even better when you eat off of china. Highly recommend!

Good luck!

usually if you go to a wedding registry place they will give you a list of things and you will find things that you didn’t think of. i would suggest Bed Bath & Beyond because you can take anything back of your registry and get cash. plus they help you out a lot. you will also get random presents on your wedding day that you didn’t even register for

Just because you are getting married does not mean you need to register for things you don’t need or want very much. If you can’t think of them, why would you ask for them? If you had a great desire for the items, you certainly you know what they were.
Why don’t you come up with something that would be of use or importance to you. You can register for a trip at a travel agent. People can contribute towards your trip in the dollar amount of their choice. Or for a spa day for you and your husband.
Better yet, ask your guests to make charitable contributions in your/your groom’s name to the charity of your choice.
Don’t just ask for stuff because you can.

It sounds like you already have a household established — this is a common issue for modern couples, who have usually already lived on their own before getting married.

Instead of asking for basic household items, think about asking for some of the nicer things you might not be able to afford for yourself, such as:

-A top-quality dinnerware set for holidays and events
-Glassware for entertaining
-A nice decanter/pitcher
-Specialty cookware or appliances, like an espresso machine, mortar and pestle, etc.
-Ultra-luxe sheets and bedding

Just make sure not everything on your registry is pricey so guests with a variety of budgets can all afford something off your list.

Congratulations and enjoy!

walk around the store and see if there is anything you may want. It’s a lot harder to do it online.

RowerGirl @ 10:45 am #

I find the easiest way to do a registry is not to do it online, but instead to actually go to the store and walk around to figure out what you need. The store will give you a little scanner and the item goes right onto your list. Then you don’t have to search for specific items.

But, you may want to consider things like new linens (for the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen), nice Christmas items (a nice tree skirt, etc), a nice mirror or lamp, etc.

Some people enjoy registering for home-making appliances. If you guys are moving into a new place and want to decorate a bit, put in for a registry at places like Home Depot and Lowe’s. People can get you gift cards, or they can also buy you stuff for around the house you might need (step-ladder, tool kit, etc.)

While you’ve probably registered for kitchen appliances and dishes, consider other things you can use in the kitchen. Are there any expensive cookbooks you two like but can’t afford? What about gourmet month clubs? Having a treat come in the mail every month for the first year of marriage might be fun, if you’re into food. Williams-Sonoma is a great company to look into for those items.

If you’re afraid of missing something, look up websites like knot.com and find their registry page. They’ll list everything a typical starting-out couple will need/want to consider when getting stuff together for their registry. Print it and after crossing off what you’ve already registered for, decide if you want to register for what’s left.

basketcase88 @ 11:46 am #

Don’t forget to register for fun stuff as well. Everyone can use all the sheets, towels, etc., in the world, but pick a fun waffle iron, or some nice artwork, a bedside lamp, etc. This is your one chance to ask for specific things, so if you like it–ask for it! I’ve seen everything from artwork to board games to musical instruments to camping gear on wedding registries.

denise25 @ 12:37 pm #

If you like to entertain, fun things like appetizer dishes or entree platters are great. You never know if you’ll be hosting a holiday meal down the road. Decorative items for the home are nice, like candles/candleholders or pretty frames to hold your wedding photos. Bed linens are always useful, or new pillows.

Haha! I am creating one too on myregistry.com. I am actually going to go scan a few items with my iphone and fiance later today so that I can add items straight onto it. From what relatives have told me, kitchenaid and oxo items seem like a sure bet for a successful kitchen collection! :) I like the empire red artisan mixer by kitchenaid and the oxo smartpop container set. Hmm…we’re also doing a cash gift fund (titling it Honeymoon to Italy though) to help us out with extras on the fun little getaway post wedding :) Good luck with planning! It’s a new day and age – you don’t have to stick to towels and bed sets if you already have them!
